Curling Devices for Leg Amputees
Curling is a very popular sport enjoyed by beginners and experienced players of all ages. With the aids of curling devices, many leg amputees are able to participate in this game of stones.
I
n order to throw a stone, curlers assume a prone position in the "hack", one leg is straight back and the other leg almost kneels on the ice. For leg amputees, assuming a proper pone position is not possible with a standard artificial leg because the foot of the artificial leg just does not flex as a natural one does. Some amputees have a special curling leg which allows them to assume the prone position to throw a stone.
Alternatively, two devices have been developed allowing a stone to be thrown from the standing position.
