Ice Skating
For arm amputees, there is little or no adjustment that needs to be made to enjoy skating.
- Arm amputees should wear a stump protector (if not wearing an artificial arm) to protect the residual limb against injury in the event of a fall. A bilateral arm amputee may wish to consider wearing a helmet should there be concern about striking ones had in a fall, when the amputee has no arms to reach out to "break" his/her fall.
- Wearing the artificial arm (or having weight added to the stump protector) will help with balance.
- Skates with Velcro fasteners are easier to do up than skates with laces, which can be especially useful for children
