Alex Glowa
Alexander (Alex) William Glowa was born on March 1, 1918, in Alonsa, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Army in 1938 and completed his training with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. After transferring to England, he joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment. His unit saw action in Normandy, France, first at Caen and then at the Falaise Gap, where he was wounded by shell fragments and lost his leg.

Mr. Glowa was an active member of The War Amps Calgary Branch from 1945 until his passing in 2009, having served as:
- National Director, Calgary Branch
- President, Calgary Branch
- Secretary-Treasurer, Calgary Branch
In 2008, the French government bestowed upon him the rank of Chevalier (Knight) in the Order of the Legion of Honour for having fought for the liberation of France. He was also awarded the Honorary CHAMP Membership by The War Amps for his dedication and years of service.
Mr. Glowa passed away on December 4, 2009.
