1925-2017

Gordon MacDonald

Gordon MacDonald, of Halifax, was born on September 24, 1925, and enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in August 1943. While preparing to raise an aircraft from a crash site in Newfoundland in 1945, a crane accident occurred, resulting in the loss of his left leg above the knee.

He joined The War Amps in 1953 and was a member of the Nova Scotia Branch and the Prince Edward Island Branch, holding the positions of:

  • National Director, Nova Scotia Branch
  • President and Secretary, Nova Scotia Branch
  • Member, Prince Edward Island Branch
  • Member, War Amps National Council

Awards:

  • Distinguished Service Membership, The War Amps
  • Meritorious Service Membership, The War Amps
  • Honorary CHAMP Membership

Mr. MacDonald is remembered as an outstanding advocate for the Association, which led to him receiving the Distinguished Service Membership, Meritorious Service Membership and Honorary CHAMP Membership.

He passed away on November 2, 2017.
